Storycrafter.com enables people from all over the globe to collaborate
on interactive stories and online role-playing games through our
play-by-post forums.
Because the site was designed as a place to host interactive stories
and online role-playing games we built into it a number of unique
features.
Please take a moment to read over some of the features of storycrafter.com
and decide if it is right for you.
Player Features:
Private Message System - the private message system allows
you to interact with other members in a story and the story crafter
behind the scenes. You can use this for in-game collaboration or
for clarifications or any out of character discussions.
Character Manager - you can create and manage as many characters
as you like. Once you send them on auditions and they are accepted
into the cast of a story you can use the character watch list to
conveniently notify you when your story has been updated and new
material exist for you to read.
Game Message Board - each story has it's own private forum
section in the story itself. These posts are generally out of character
and are displayed on the homepage of the story. Most people use
these general forums to communicate with the cast outside the structured
story acts.
Story Acts - any given story can any number of acts going
on at a given time. These are different places in a story actions
are taking place. Cast members can post new actions and dialog in
any acts they have access to see.
Rich Edit Controls - players have access to a rich edit
control that allows them to define the appearance of their post.
Some options include, fonts, colors, highlighting, bold, italics,
and underline. In addition this rich edit control is compatible
with Microsoft Word; most formatting is preserved when copying from
Word to storycrafter.com.
Character Sheets - players can manage each character on
their character sheet. Character sheets define public information
and private information only the storycrafter and player have access
to.
Character Images - players can select from a large repository
of available images or upload one of his or her own choosing.
StoryCrafter / Game Master Features:
Casting Calls - the storycrafter can indicate he or she
is looking for new cast members thus enabling other members to audition
for various roles in his or her story. Once they close down auditions
no more members may apply.
Image Archive - the story crafter can upload and manage
images in their story image archive for use in their story. Images
can include maps, characters, scenes, or anything that might help
to tell set the scene.
Cast Controls - In addition to the ability to hire and fire
cast members, you can create your own characters and add them to
your stories cast. Cast is divided into main and supporting roles
to more easily identify key players. With storycrafter.com's unique
cast system you can play NPC's as though they were real players
thus setting up impacting storyline events.
Co-Story Crafter - you can promote a cast member to near
equal authority in your story, allowing him or her to share your
storycrafter responsibilities. Don't worry though, no one but you
can delete the story or take away your ultimate storycrafter power.
Simple Image Controls - in addition to the standard rich
edit controls players have storycrafters have a simple control that
gives them the ability to easily insert any images uploaded to their
image archive into their post. They can even drag and drop the image
inside the post or resize it on the fly.
Story Themes - choose from a wide variety of story themes
to help set the mood for your players.
Contextual Admin - admin features like editing post, or
deleting messages are displayed in context of the normal use. This
is much simpler than a separate admin panel.
Prologue and System - each story has these two primary sections
so that the story crafter can easily define the premise and rules
for the story.
Dice Roller - many games require dice. Story crafter has
a built-in dice roller to facilitate dice rolls. Each act can be
enabled to receive dice rolls by the characters. The dice roller
supports most common formats.
Private / Public Acts - the storycrafter can set acts private
to certain cast members. Cast members that do not have access will
not be able to see or post in these acts. You can use this to split
up groups, interact individually with cast members, or create secret
acts only you can see to keep important information on hand at all
times. Conversely public acts are available to all cast members
to read and post and the public can read them.
