  Greetings,
I played in the story Tooth and Claw, which sadly came to a rather sudden end here recently.I Played Rinaldo the Rhinoarian. I just wanted to say to my fellow players,it was my pleasure to rp,even if for but a brief time, such a pool of talented rpers. Special mention goes out to the players of the Mouse, the Cat, Herr Wolf, and my fellow word fencer....the "TURTLE!!"..ha,ha..Shell back. But all where outstanding.
I hope to have the opportunity to again participate in a story with some or all of you folks. Til then, have a good one.

Tortoise!  He was a tortoise! Wink

I'm wondering if anyone was interested in maybe starting something a little similar?  I was also enjoying the game and would have liked a little more warning/preparation time before it went pop.  I might have taken it over.

You should either discuss the new game here or in the 'interest' area of the forum, or actually create it as a game and hope your players come.

Putting up a blank story just to garner interest and encourage discussion isn't exactly kosher.  Sad

I apologise if my methods don't quite fit in with the unwritten rules of StoryCrafter but I had no intention of doing anything wrong or "abusing" the system.  In fact I was only trying to make use, and encourage use, of a grossly underused resource here (this forum).

It was a way to encourage more people to look at the forum so more people can participate in the discussion.  Specifically it was a way to contact the players of the old game in order to solicit their opinion (as you can see from this thread they haven't been checking the forum without a little prodding, so I thought I little prodding was necessary).

I don't want to start a game without discussing it first and without gauging interest a little.  But I can't effectively do that if no-one looks at the forum.  A bit catch 22 don't you think?  Besides, with 28 active stories (this week) out of 742 - does one more (that I will delete after a couple of days to a week) cause that much of a problem?

The alternative would be to create a "genuine" story (without a fully fleshed out setting) and make anyone interested go through all the bother of making characters and applying and then possibly not going anywhere with it if it turns out not to be worth it.  I don't think that is entirely "kosher" either.

I can write it up to make it look like a genuine story if you prefer?  But I'd rather be completely honest about my intentions.

Edit: Deleted at your request.

No need to apologize, SteveLaw.  I'm sorry that you feel like you've been accused of something, or that the situation is unfair, but the rules pretty much apply to everyone equally.

Everyone using the site is aware of the forums, everyone using the site must put up actual games rather than chat areas to discuss a potential game to be.  That's just the way things are.

A genuine story would have been fine.

We weren't really discussing rules, just what or wasn't "exactly kosher".  ("Forum Guidelines" is actually empty, if there is a list of rules I still haven't found it - shouldn't all new members be made aware of it?)

Not all of the "stories" are actual games.  "The Loft", for example, is basically just a forum (because the members are aware that this forum is pretty much dead).  "The Joint Post Forum" is more of a "tool", not a game, nor really a forum.  I'm sure there are others but I have no objection to them, do you?

But I'm not arguing about it, I've deleted the "story".

The Loft has pretty much received special dispensation to exist by the Founder.

The Joint Post forum is used for collaberative writing, as games are allowed to do.

As for what's kosher, that's not determined by my 'point of view', but by what the site Founder intended and has stressed to the admin staff.  Games are used for collaborative writing, period.  The forum is for the discussion, the 'interest in games', etc.

The fact that nobody uses the Forum has no bearing on that.  Admin staff can't exactly force people to use the forum, beyond ensuring that people don't set up all kinds of games for discussion, which is against the Founder's intent.

PS - nobody is blaming you for setting up the discussion 'dummy' game.

Hopefully that will clarify the situation, and we can avoid that arguement.  Smiley
