I want to run a story with a stat system and all that but, I never run a story with one before so any help with how to set one up and things would be a great help.

First of all, are you already familiar with any systems? Running a game with one is much easier if you've played in a game with the system before. Otherwise, it's hard for you to tell players what to roll and to make rulings. If you're not familiar with one, you could try to read a copy of the rule book and see how comfortable you feel with the system after that. Alternately, put off running the game for a bit and give playing in one with the system you want to use a try.
You'll need to tell players how you want them to create characters. You'll also have to create character sheets for any NPCs with important stats -- depending on the type of game you're running, this may only be characters the PCs will be fighting but it may also include characters they'll be interacting with socially.
Hope that helps a little.
