Seems like it would be easy enough to transition the murdery mystery type game to do online PBP style.  Everyone comes to a party and then lights go out and someone dies.  Then it's up to the guests to figure out who the killer is, best part is the killer is one of the guest.

So, would the killer be one of the writers or an NPC?

I almost ran something like this. I was going to set it at a convention for murder mystery writers (called "MurderCon") where a big name author (a parody of Agatha Christie) is murdered. As the convention has been set on a remote island hotel (the inspiration for a location in one of her books) and there is a storm preventing the police from getting to the island, the players (who are all murder mystery writers promoting their new books at the convention) have to solve the crime themselves.

Could never work out a thrilling enough murder mystery and so I never ran it unfortunately.

the killer would be one of the writers.  I would have a detective there as an NPC who would help out with clues and point them in the right direction if they were having difficulty.  It would be a lot like if you played the game at home with friends and without the usual dinner that goes with it.
