account name and password length

I don't know if it has been reported before (I couldn't find anything using a search), but it appears that the main site at least has a maximum length on login names (12 characters I think) and passwords (10 characters?) but the fields that you enter those into when registering do not limit you to that length.

In my case this meant that I entered an account name that ended up being truncated and was only able to log back in because the site sent me the registration email that had the truncated account name in it. I then changed my password to something I would remember and it was also truncated with out my knowing it.

I would suggest either putting in some form validation that catches this and warns the user that they need to use a shorter string for those values or at the least add a maxlength attribute to the form tags for those fields that will prevent strings longer than the character limit from being entered.
