The only problem I can see is that people might have a problem with me controlling the background of their characters... but that, unfortunately, is unavoidable for the plot to work. The story relies a lot on the characters finding things out about themselves and their past and how they react to it, their powers will not be that important to me however of course it is up to the characters what they do with what is given to them
This is the biggest problem I see as well. I like to have more control over my character than that.
Do you think the secrecy is absolutely necessary? There's a difference between having things the players don't know and having things the characters don't know. I'm in favor of having things the characters don't know, but I like to know them myself. I generally don't have trouble separating my knowledge and that of my character.
I've been known to compromise -- to give the SC a broad outline of my background and let them add details, though usually it's a more of a back and forth discussion.
