The private message system has been upgraded.

1. Fixed a bug that would occasionally cause replies to go to admins instead of the intended recipient when replying outside of a story.

2. Added pagination to message listing

3. Corrected select all/none which wasn't working properly.

4. Changed image buttons to actual buttons. Which will now comply with the custom theme styles for input buttons.

5. Refactored code to comply with new security protocols.

Fixed a bug where the current character would change when new characters where created and added to the story.

Fixed the bug where such an event could cause you to loose your PA privileges. Now if any of your characters is a PA you will have PA privileges regardless your current character.

Site Update: Feature Request
Date: 7/39/08

I returned the remember me feature so that you won't have to manually log in all the time. There is a difference though. I store the data heavily encrypted and with enough information about your network location and client that if you log on from a different location (from a Starbucks for example) you will have to re-enter your password again since I want to insure you haven't been the victim of cookie theft.

If you only use your computer from one location and your network address is fairly stable this will seem to be same as the previous system.

  • Added Captcha Image Code function into registration page to eliminate the spammer registrants.

StoryCrafter Adds Revenue Sharing as a Reward for Dutiful StoryCrafters.
As a StoryCrafter, there is a 50% chance your Google AdSense Code will be displayed for each page viewed in your story. The rest of the time the StoryCrafter.com ad code will be displayed (previously this was displayed 100% of the time).

This is just a small way to reward those StoryCrafter's that work hard to create a quality experience for his or her cast members.

You may also advertise your story in the Google ads shown here on StoryCrafter.com by using Google Adwords sitematch. You can setup a free Google Adwords account here: Sign up for AdWords.

How Do I Participate in the StoryCrafter Revenue Sharing Program?
First, you will need a Google AdSense account if you don't have one already. You can join or read more about Google AdSense here.

On your stories option page enter your Google AdSense Client ID (including the beginning "pub-"). Once saved your ads will begin being served immediately.

Is my AdSense Code Visible in Source?
You'll never (so long as you're logged in) see your own AdSense code. This is to ensure you don't click your own AdSense links, as this would Violate the Terms of Service you agreed to. We don't want anyone getting banned from AdSense for something so small.

Is this allowed by Google?
Yes, since all the ads on a page will contain only one ad code; either yours or ours. For further clarification please contact Google directly.

How much can I make?
Let's be realistic; you are not going to make much. Maybe you will make 1 cent a day or maybe you will make 3 dollars a day; who knows? You're probably not going to retire as a professional StoryCrafter and that isn't the point of it anyhow. This is just a way to reward you with something (even if that something is minuscule) for being a StoryCrafter here. After all it's your stories that people are here for.

Can I tell my cast to click on the ads?
No! According to Google's terms and conditions you shall not, and shall not authorize or encourage any third party to: (i) directly or indirectly generate queries, Referral Events, or impressions of or clicks on any Ad, Link, Search Result, or Referral Button.

If I see you doing anything to violate these terms on this website we will permanently remove your revenue sharing capability.

Several improvements have been made to the custom theme capability including:

1.) The ability to add custom banner graphics or column graphics to every page of the story.
2.) The ability to disable individual elements from your story like the cast message board, member panel, banner ads, and more.
3.) The ability to reposition individual elements on the screen like all of the above for example.
4.) The ability to theme the story acts independently from the story home page.

And more. Check the latest custom theme for examples of how to take advantage of these new capabilities.

I am adding a new, StoryCrafter Publish, for lack of a better word. It is still in it's early testing stages and the documentation is still under development.

SC Publish allows you to organize, download and share your stories in kindle-conversion-compatible Abobe pdf format.

Using it is very simple. First click on the publish controls and create a publication, name it what you like. Then define your chapter divisions. Once you have defined one or more chapters you can add your story's acts to those chapters. The order you create and/or add your acts or chapters to your publications determines what order they will be displayed in your final document.

Once you are ready to publish click the "Generate" link on the row where your publication is listed and it will generate your publication's pdf. You can download your pdf by clicking on the pdf icon next to your publication.

For large publications it will take some time to generate, be patient. If you click the link more than once you will only delay the generation process.

That's it. The publication system will format your story to be book-readable (or as close as I can get with what you used in your original post), add a table of contents and title page, and do a few other nifty things you will have to figure out for yourself.

Here is a publication of one of the stories I ran.

Thank you so much for this.

Having an easy means to backup and port these stories that many of us invest so much time, energy and love into is great!!!

NP.

Also if you include regularly include OOC comments in your post but DON'T want them in your publications then while writing your comment select your comment and choose the new OOC style from the editor's style drop down box. These comments will then be stripped out in the publication process.

Changed our captcha system to Mollom because of the excessive errors people were getting trying to join. Sometimes the had to try 15 times or more before they got the right code.

I'm experimenting adding Instant Messaging to the site. You can opt out of the experiment by using the drop-down box in "Member Center" area to navigate to > "Update My Info!" and clicking on the "Disable IM" in the "User Settings" area.

Otherwise, to use IM to chat with another member make sure you have them on your friends list and they you.

This sounds like a great feature!  Have to go test it out now...or soon, depending on who's online.  Smiley
