Join the crew of the Wandering Star - see the Universe.  There are worlds of possibilities out there -

For you orphans of the FireFly game deleted today, if you still want to use your characters, let me know.  I am entertaining the idea of going ahead and starting a ship.

I will look for a small crew at first, to see if I have the stuff to do this - no more than 9 or 10 if that (depending on interest levels)

Looking for Pilot, systems engineer/mechanics, entertainers (not companions, entertainers), hospitality (cook, laundry, housekeeping), cargo handler, strongarm of course, and anything else you can think of for a working starship.

Let's be creative, and have some fun.

If we can generate enough true interest among people who will genuinly be interested in telling a story, I'll get it off the ground.

So, no passengers as of yet?

Not yet, but I'm hopeful.

For interested parties - crew needs to have more than one area of expertise.  This is a good-sized ship, being run by as few crew as possible, doubling up on abilities.  I am of the opinion that an adult human being can be well-versed in many learned abilities.  To quote Robert Heinlein (may he rest in peace) "Specialization is for insects."

At the moment, we are talking about a versitile ship, capable of handling cargo, passengers (including high-class VIP's), deep-space scouting of new territories, etc.  We will not be a one-trick pony.

Not thinking about anything but crew at this time, passengers will be NPC's and plot points at least at first.  Unless you can make me a really, REALLY good point!

Hey, I'm trying here :)

Killean - Shepherd/Cook/Small engines.

He wouldn't be able to fix a Firefly engine, but he does know some of the tools.

and it occurred to me (just now actually) that as a shepherd who has had to provide for orphans and downtrodden on a painfully limited budget, he would also have some pretty interesting black market contacts. sometimes the only way to provide for children is by dealing with the nefarious.

Hmmm... Merz is going from running to captaining?

:)  yey for multifaceted stu- i mean Shepherds!  ^-^

actually because we were so captain-deficient in Aftermath, I was considering how Jak would fair as a captain.  but that puts a different spin on things and it needed further contemplation, which I didn't have time for.

Would knowledge of the Firefly universe be required?  Because I've got, well, none.

If not, I've got an idea for a somewhat grumpy doctor.

None required.  I've been talking w/the SC all day, and it's NOT a Firefly game.

That said, we've also been discussing making it a small, invitation-only game, so showing interest here isn't necessarily a free pass.  But as I'm not the SC (merely the messenger), the decision ain't mine to make.

Squee, if you're thinking of getting all captainy, don't let our shared storyline hold you back.

All things in life and business are, after all, fluid.

There's cargo handler too - good job for an *organized* individual ;)

lol, are you kidding- i wouldn't trade our storyline for nuthin ^-^  Getting captainy would only change her recent life and asperations and such.  But it doesn't look like it needs contemplating, as I'm sorting stuff out with DD as we speak :)

but... wait... this isn't going to be a Firefly game? *confused*

Thanks for your interest, my friends.

No, this won't be a Firefly game, although characters designed for that setting won't suffer much.  No War, no Reavers, No Blue Sun.

Squee and Channain - if you two already have a shared backstory, bring it on.  Otherwise everyone else is a stranger.

I do want you to have, even if you don't share it with me, a well-rounded character.  They are coming from somewhere and going somewhere.  Your Backstory at least needs to be in the back of your mind, these are three-dimensional persons we are dealing with.  Or such is my great hope.

To avoid that awkward and rather difficult to both read and deal with period of 'hiring' people that just 'happen' to wander by, you have already been hired, by someone you never met - been given a sign-on bonus, and told to be at this [docking bay #, etc.] on this [insert date], ready to go.  We'll start with arrivals.  When the story starts, assuming there is interest enough, I will be setting that up.

In this Universe, A.I.'s do exist, although expensive and rare.  A person who wanted to be an A.I. in a humanoid body would be considered.  No aliens, we haven't met any.  Medical cybernetics will be considered, intentional enhancements, not so much [will consider on an individual basis.]

My current story, is a soap opera.  I know this, and that's the way I wanted it.  This one however is not going to be designed that way.  I want, if we can manage it together, Joss Wheden's depth of character, Gene Roddenberry's diverse Universe, and Farscape's glorious sense of 'so you think you know what we're going to do next.  HA!, Fooled you ...'  Oh, and humor.  We must have humor.

I have ideas going, and will probably put the game up this week or on my day off next week, whenever that will be.  Channain, Argyle, Squee you ARE already invited, if you so choose.  If you don't like the changed direction, no hard feelings.  Just let me know, here or in PM.

Thanks, my friends, for inspiring me.  I never intended to start another Story, but I'm feeling challenged here.

Artistically challenged?  Ooh! Yeah, I do think Genetic Drift has been devoured by the monster, which leaves me a free slot.  Of course, my writing skills may be lacking until I get over this darned cold.

Oh, hey!  Saves me a step.  You were on my short list of people to (suggest to) specifically invite.

Arg, have you approached Texscripter yet? I think he'd have fun with this.

Also on my short list... but I didn't have time to talk to Dee Dee about any of them yesterday, and she's gonna be pretty tied up today.

I'm sure the both of us will be heavily involved with the game creation and operation, you and I.  But Dee Dee is still at least nominally in charge, unless and until she says something potentially disastrous like "I consider you co-SC(s)."  (This has never worked well in my observations, but I've also never been part of such an arrangement.)  So I defer decisions on who to invite (among other things) to her until told otherwise.

That said, the universe she depicted is based heavily on my suggestions, so I'm sure my input hasn't exactly ended.
