Nicholas Cage? Okaywhateversure.I was always a huge fan of Ghost Rider. The original comics, anyway, in the '70s and early '80s; I loved especially the later ones, when the awesome art combined with the nifty writing for some sticky and unpleasant moral quandaries. No more battling maniacal supervillains, no; the Ghost Rider kept getting unleashed on poor ordinary schlubs (admittedly jerks) who stood no chance, thus maximizing poor Johnny's guilt trips afterwards.
The revived comics, especially the newer series . . . meh. Most of what I saw was too busy going "OMG! Fire-skeleton is sooooo badass!" to be interesting; the Ghost Rider was basically EVIL, dammit, not some warped hero. He only did good because Johnny forced him into it! No admiration for the demon, doggone it! Bad comics industry! No cookie!
But!
Next February, we get Ghost Rider movie! Hooray! They're going to butcher one of my most beloved Marvel comics!
I'm going to watch it anyway, of course. Nicholas Cage, odd though the choice appears, does the "nice guy with crap luck who destroys everything he touches by sheer contagious loser-ness" schtick pretty well. This would be some kind of bizarre amalgamation of the "Lord of War" and "Weatherman" characters. It *might* not suck.
So how many Ghost Rider and Associated Ripoff Concepts Inc. games do you think we'll end up with after that movie hits for real? It seems like almost every Gary Stu is a "guy with a demon trapped inside OMG and he goes into a trance and KILLS HIS WHOLE FAMILY and it's TRAGIC but he's totally badass and unstoppable WOW!"
I'm betting at least half a dozen before it all dies down.
