Would anybody be interested in a Firefly/Serenity RPG? Not using the original crew, but more freeform with the cast as the crew of a ship.

Need to do a bit more research and stuff, but if there is an interest I'll post it.

Cheers

There are already a few Firefly games running here on SC but there's always room for more dear boy! I don't have time to participate myself but I'll eat my own nose if you don't get a large number of people wanting to play. Everyone loves Firefly, right?*

* Yes, except for Fox. But they didn't like Family Guy or Futurama so what do they know, huh?

Cool Smiley I saw that there was quite a few firefly games, but they have never really taken off.

I've only seen the movie, but I'm doing a lot of "background research" into the topic with the view of making it something special.

Thanks for the confidence boost!

"Spectre: The Resurrection" was running in a Firefly setting. The captain and crew were all original, with no prior association with the Serenity Crew. The writing has come to a screeching halt of late, though. There's actually quite a few running in the Firefly setting, as has been stated.

I'd be interested in anything Firefly, my own self. But I'll admit, I'm a little picky as to what I would join. Someone who picked Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones for the avatar of the captain. I ran away from that one.

Best to have a set story arc with one of these, I think. Unless the characters want to spend all their time in casual interaction. Firefly RPs have a tendency to do that.

FIREFLY had a tendency to do that.

Understandable, since Joss Whedon's biggest strength has always been his banter.

The Firefly 'verse itself is a great place for a story, as frontiers tend to be.

Firefly is certainly my favorite setting. It's hard to find an RPG that holds to the original premise, though. Everyone wants to inject the Big Bad in the form of Blue Sun covert operations or Reavers.

Firefly was about 10 characters (including Serenity) trying to find their way in a big, black, cold universe. Very seldom do things go smooth, and when they do, it's because the captain got left out in the desert in the altogether.

It takes a lot of talent for character writing to make a Firefly RPG survive. You can't rely on super powers, can't rely on shootouts all the time, or combat situations. It's just real life that happens to take place on a space ship.

I wrote a paper about it for my English Comp class. I had to cop out and formulate it as a dream, but the character was able to take the "Scenic Route" from Minneapolis to Rome by boarding a Firefly in Minneapolis and heading out to a colony on Mars and then landing in Rome. I had all kinds of ideas for character interaction with the Serenity crew too, but I also had a confounded word limit.

You have to be able to just keep flying. Not everyone is able to do that, or finds enough interest in it. I'm dull enough that I'd give up my comfy chair in Heaven for the opportunity, I guess.

Well, I'm getting a feel for it and I'm glad there is interest. Once I'm moved int my new flat I'll start drawing up plans and when my fiancee moves in with me (she is also on storycrafter) we'll "release the beast".

I'd like to put an element of storyline in it and have an ultimate ending to the "chapter", but I'd also like to keep the crew running from story to story.

Sounds completely SHINY!!

PM me when the time comes. I'd be happy to join in. If you'd like an audition before then, actually, PM me for that.

Just because I SAY I know Firefly doesn't mean I do, now does it?

Keep flying!

Good! Discuss it with Peersy.

: D

Seriously - no way I'm SCing an actual game. No sir!

The Loft is nice and comfy, thank you (hint hint)

I wouldn't be bringing Rowan back anyway. The character I have in mind is decidedly different from her.

I'd definitely be interested in a Firefly game.  I was playing one here (the one Channain ran away from, I think) but there were several things about it I wasn't quite happy with and after a while everybody else stopped posting.

I think it would be a good idea for the SC not to be playing the captain.  This is because the SC has to be all the villains and antagonists and so on - I don't want them to be the hero as well.

Please PM me when you get things going - I've got a shiny medic all ready to go and plenty more ideas if she doesn't fit in.

If it's Spectre: The Resurrection you're referring to, I should tell you that I didn't run away from it - I was fired.

Character puppeting was one reason I was fired. The characters I was writing with at the time didn't mention anything to me, but the captain felt I had taken liberties that he labeled puppeting.

I also made some pretty broad assumptions about the Reavers, which I admit. Rather than work with me on correcting issues, the Captain/SC fired me on the spot.

That's why I started The Loft, so I could hear from other SCs about this kind of stuff.

I agree that the SC should not be the captain as well. Seems to me, however, that it's a pretty solid Firefly RPG pattern that the SC is also the captain who is trying to assemble a crew for the ship.

Don't worry, I have no intention of playing the Captain. I'll have plenty of other characters to be playing - maybe even some of your crewmates without you knowing *Evil Grin*.

I'll let you know when we get started. Probably about a month, maybe less Cheesy

It wasn't Spectre: The Resurrection - it was one with Harrison Ford as the captain though.  That wasn't my issue with the game.  It was having every character's entire history on display (I prefer secrets to come out through roleplay) and the leopard.

Now the SC playing crewmates I think is a great idea - so long as they're not leopards.
