Would like to see the PAs being allowed to have power to allow players to join the game  and view auditions  ... this would be handy if the SC who started the game disappears ...

Allowing PAs to do this was once a feature which was probably discontinued because of abuses .....

Could a confirmation prompt be added to the Delete function of a message board? As it stands, if you accidentally click Delete for the message board instead of an individual message, the whole thing is just GONE in an instant.

I've seen this happen a good dozen times or more, and have probably done it at least three times myself in the last 6 -8 months.

Which reminds me there seems to have been glitches where a message board gets deleted by outside forces ... it seems unlikely that an SC or a PA did the deed in the cases I've seen ... could have been done without noticing, I suppose ... Shocked

It may have been suggested already, but in case it hasn't, I'd like to suggest that the working "current character" avatars appear at the top of the screen, rather than at the bottom.

I'm only part of six stories. Some of my counterparts are in two or three times as many, so their respective avatars are driven WAY down to the bottom.

Also, I'm in two stories right now that are using the same background - I play a male in one, and a female in the other, but otherwise the graphics and text are the same. When I step away from the game and come back, I can read the titles, of course, but it would be more convenient to know which game I'm in by the character avatar that appears, rather than by the text.

I prefer it the way it is. Personally, I don't find the picture particularly necessary at all, but I definitely prefer it in the position it is over higher on the screen. My reasoning revolves around the fact that sometimes my list of characters extends down far enough that I have to scroll down to see the whole thing. Since I don't find the picture important, I'd much prefer that it was at the bottom where it's less likely to force me to scroll down when I look to see if there is a red star indicating that stories have been updated.

Upon further reflection, I think I'd like to see something like a "Site News" link (or maybe just an occasionally updated blurb) on the front page. Y'know, so that we know what's going on behind the scenes as it were.

I know I wouldn't have caught on to the rebirth of the forums if I wasn't the type to compulsively click on the link every few days, for example. Same goes for the brief panic a month or two ago about the viability of StoryCrafter due to the sudden and unexplained cutoff on avatar uploads. Just a note about what was happening might have saved a bit of worry for a few people I know.

Can totalling the dice be made optional?  A lot of games don't require dice rolls to be totalled.  Sometimes you have to roll a number of dice against a target number, and count how many successes you have.  The total isn't necessary, and can confuse players who might not be experienced with the system the SC is using.

I didn't see this in the list of suggestions, so pardon me if I'm repeating.

1:  When uploading an image, it could be required to select Male/Female/Other rather than letting the lazy or uncaring simply upload without selecting any appropriate options, era, gender, etc.

2:  As implied by the above suggestion, there could be an Other catagory for images that are not people.  These are useful and used, but hard to locate.

Just an FYI, sometimes the upload picture thing was buggy anyway. I'm extraordinarily picky about making sure I check boxes and do things right. I've been at this site for quite a long time and uploaded quite a few pictures. I chose a gender every single time, yet about 75% of them didn't get categorized correctly or at all.

It's not just the lazy or uncaring... it was also bugged.

These are all good sugestions and in particular I think I hear many people saying a few things over and over, they are:

1. Fix the character Image Archive. Agreed this needs work and is possible the higest priority. Please see New Character Image Archive ideas post in this forum to contribute your ideas on this subject.

2. Finding a story to join of advertising your new story is not as easy as it should be. The new Stories/Story Browser is the next higest priority item, the the post on this forum concerning this subject.

There are many other quality suggestions on this forum that can be addressed after these issues are resolved.

************STOP reading here if your not interested in Storycrafter.com's finances******************
However one person requested more transparency when it came to donations and how they were spent or how much the server cost or some such....

Though I see no real purpose in people knowing this information, to satisfy curiosity here it is.

Storycrafter.com is hosted on a webserver with several other sites that all belong to me or my partners. Currently, we have between 8 to 12 sites that are mostly personal that we host for friends and family, or our own sites for recreation (as Storycrafter.com is for me)

Though I am somewhat sheltered from the operation expense of the server by my partners I know it is over one hundred dollars a month.

Recently one of my partners contacted me about adding banners ads to storycrafter.com to help cover the cost of keeping the server running as SC.com was consuming more and more resources on our server.

I initially rejected the idea, but he does have a point. Storycrafter has been around for a long time now, 4 years next week on the 16th. Thats roughly a cost of between $1,500 to $4,000 for just running the server.

In that time I have recived a total of $29 in donations.  Which I count as a blessing because it came at a time when I really wanted to do something for my wife and didn't have any money.

As you can see storycrafter.com is not, nor was ever intended to a economic success. I will be happy when it can financially sustain itself, and for that reason I will be working with my partners to determine the actual ammount per month needed to pay for the operational expense of storycrafter.com and be posting that information as well as options for reaching that goal, including banner ads if neccesary, as soon as I can.

I think I can handle a couple of banner ads.  They certainly wouldn't kill the site for me.

I could handle some banner ads. I'm very good at ignoring them -- they don't really even register.
